“I started sewing, like many people, in 2020, making face coverings, scrunchies, and bags. After selling many of these online; and at craft fairs, I wanted to make something for myself and try a new challenge.
After being inspired by many Tilly & The Buttons patterns; and their simple instructions, I thought they would be the perfect place to start.
Once I started, I realised how much I enjoy all aspects of dress-making, from looking through beautiful fabrics and patterns, being inspired by other people’s creations, and meeting lovely people at craft groups and workshops to the finished garment.
The pride of saying “I made it” and the confidence to wear what you want, when you want, how you want has never gone away. This freedom is my favourite part of sewing. You can make anything you dream up come to life!
But if you’re starting on your sewing journey, here are some tips that can help:
First off, use a glue pen instead of pins for those fiddly and small pieces! It’ll save you tons of time and money in the long run!
Second: Don’t be afraid to experiment with different materials, techniques, and patterns until you find what works best for YOU!
And finally: Don’t forget to take breaks every once in a while—you’ll be surprised how much better your work will turn out when you do this”
